On Sunday, 6 July, the National Planning Council (NPC) organized a technical workshop on the methodology underpinning Qatar's National Population Forecasting Model. The event brought together representatives from several key government entities, aiming to strengthen the alignment between the predictive modeling outputs and development policies at the national level.
The workshop featured the presentation of the National Population Forecasting Model, which was developed in-house by the NPC using advanced scientific methods aligned with international best practices. This interactive model enables users to simulate a variety of demographic scenarios based on a range of variables, such as fertility rates, recruitment, and natural population growth. It also supports customized projections by age group, gender, and nationality.
Moreover, the workshop shed light on the model's methodological framework and the rigorous data quality standards it upholds— most notably transparency and documentation—to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and credibility of its outputs.
Participants from various ministries and government institutions stressed the importance of enhancing coordination and integration between data producers and data users. Such collaboration is essential for supporting strategic planning, informing evidence-based policymaking, and advancing the goals of the National Development Strategy.
The National Population Forecasting Model is an effective strategic step towards building a robust knowledge base grounded in accurate data and projections, reinforcing efforts to realize the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.
