Seminar on the Right to Development, Qatar’s Fourth Human Development Report
A national development seminar was organized by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics on 10 June 2014 as part of the participatory process for the  preparation of Qatar’s fourth National Human Development Report (NHDR) which will focus on The Right to Development. The Declaration on the Right to Development was adopted in 1986 by the United Nations General Assembly and defines that: “The right to development is an inalienable human right by virtue of which every human person and all peoples are entitled to participate in, contribute to, and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development, in which all human rights and fundamental freedoms can be fully realized.” Qatar’s NHDRs aim to support and provide inputs and stimulus for national development planning.  They provide policy and advocacy tools aligned to the goals and abjectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2011-2016. The seminar served as a platform for discussing development challenges in three thematic focus areas: A Human Rights Based Approach to development in Qatar, including knowing and understanding your rights, family and social cohesion, gender and people with disabilities in development; The right to health, education and decent jobs; and  Qatar’s role in international cooperation and civic participation.  The Seminar on The Right to Development was jointly opened by H.E.
