PPC Marks Qatar Population Day
PPC Marks Qatar Population Day  Under the theme "Five Years after the Launch of Qatar Population Policy", the Permanent Population Committee (PPC) organized an event on the occasion of Qatar Population Day, which was celebrated on Tuesday, 21 October  2014, at the Four Seasons Hotel. His Excellency Dr. Saleh Al Nabit, Minster of Development Planning and Statistics and President of PPC , opened the event with a speech welcoming the guests and participants, wishing them success in achieving the ultimate objectives of Qatar Population Day  commemorated by the PPC every year, in line with United Nations' World Population Day celebrations.  His Excellency assured that  Qatar Population Day this year  coincided with the 5th anniversary of the launch of Qatar Population Policy, pointing out to the most important achievements of the Permanent Population Committee concerning the implementation of the Programme of Action of the Population Policy, and the challenges that stand in the way of achieving some of the objectives of this policy. Furthermore, He indicated that some of the measures aimed at the implementation of the objectives of the population policy can be achieved during a specified period of time (such as issuing regulations and laws, or establishing certain institutions), while other objectives will need fundamental changes in the social, economic or cultural structure. These changes can only be achieved during a relatively long period of time. For his part, HE Dr. Issa Saad Al Jaffali Al Naimi, Minister of Administrative Development (guest of honor of the ceremony), gave a speech in which he emphasized that official and civil society actors, which are involved in the implementation of the population policy, need to develop their structures and mechanisms of action in order to play their role to the fullest and creatively implement the Programme of Action of the population policy. This is the main task of the Ministry of Administrative Development, which seeks to update and develop the performance of the government machinery, enabling it to provide high-quality and world-class services in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 through the continuous update of systems and methods of work, and the provision, sponsorship, and development of human resources. This was followed by a speech by HE Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Ahad, Arab States Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund, stressing the importance of cooperation between the Permanent Population Committee and the United Nations Population Fund. Continuing to talk about the population policy of the State, the ceremony’s second session began with a presentation by one of the experts of the United Nations Population Fund about "Evaluating Population Policy", which was followed by a discussion by the attendees. As for the third and final session, it was devoted to the review and evaluation of the Programme of Action of the Population Policy in order to develop a new programme of action for the next five-year phase, as the working groups will identify its priorities in accordance with the talking points predefined for this purpose.
