The Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of October 2022. The CPI of October 2022 reached to 105.43 points showing increase by 0.36% when compared to CPI of September 2022. Compared to CPI of October 2021, [Y-o-Y basis], an increase of 5.00% has been recorded in the general index (CPI) of this month.
When comparing the main components of CPI for the month of October 2022, with the previous month September 2022 (Monthly change), it is found that there was an increase in six groups, while four groups were decreased, and two groups remained unchanged.
The groups showed increase as a follow: “Recreation and Culture” by 2.35%, “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” by 1.15%, “Communication” by 1.13%, “Health” by 0.47%, “Furniture and Household Equipment” by 0.44%, and “Restaurants and Hotels” by 0.41%. A decrease has been recorded in “Food and Beverages” by 1.35%, followed by “Clothing and Footwear” by 0.88%, “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” by 0.23%, and “Transport” by 0.17%. “Tobacco” and Education” had remained flat at the last month’s price level.
A comparison of the CPI, October 2022 with the CPI, October 2021 (Annual Change), an increase has been recorded in the general index (CPI), by 5.00%. This [Y-o-Y] price increase primary due to the prices rising in also six groups namely: “Recreation and Culture” by 26.94%, followed by “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” by 11.45%, “Furniture and Household Equipment” by 1.35%, “Food and Beverages” by 1.24%, “Education” by 1.08%, and “Restaurants and Hotels” by 0.43%,
A decrease has been shown in price levels in “Health” by 2.31%, “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” by 1.20%, “Transport” by 0.62%, “Clothing and Footwear” by 0.58%, and “Communication” by 0.12%. No changes recorded on “Tobacco”.
The CPI of October 2022 excluding “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” group stands at 107.49 points recorded an increase by 0.18% when compared to the index of September 2022. Compared with counterpart in 2021, the CPI of October index increased by 3.54%.
