• GDP at constant (2004) prices [Real GDP] up by 6.2% in the First Quarter (Q1) of 2013 • GDP at current prices [Nominal GDP] up by 6.1% in the First Quarter (Q1) of 2013 Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the preliminary estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant and current prices for the First quarter (Q1) of 2013. The estimates have been produced by using the data collected through the Quarterly Economic Indicator Survey and from other source agencies. It may be noted that the layout of the Press Release has been modified to emphasize the importance of Real GDP estimates which reflects the growth of economy. Hence the analysis presented in the above paragraphs begins with the Real GDP estimates, unlike the previous press releases where the analysis began with the discussion on Nominal GDP.Readers are also cautioned to keep the seasonality factor in view, while comparing the estimates with the preceding quarter. It may be noted that in the first quarter (Q1) of 2013, the growth of the economy (6.2%) is slightly higher than the increase (6.1%), seen in nominal GDP. This is mainly due to a marginal fall in the average prices of goods and services produced in the economy in Q1, 2013 compared to the one observed in Q1, 2012.Real GDP Estimates [GDP at Constant (2004) Prices]The quarterly GDP in the Q1 of 2013, at constant prices (i.e. Price inflation adjusted GDP) is estimated at 88.41 billion Qatari Riyal which shows an increase of 6.2% compared to the estimate of Q1 of 2012 at 83.23 billion Qatari Riyal. However, compared to the previous quarter [Q4 of 2012] estimate of 87.07 billion Qatari Riyal, there has been a growth of 1.6%.
