Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) regularly conducts comprehensive annual economic surveys to collect aggregate and detailed data on the different types of economic activities practiced in the country.   The surveys are prepared following international recommendations, concepts, and definitions. The surveys provide basic data for the preparation of the gross domestic product (GDP) and the national income as well as other economic indicators. The results of the 2011 Survey of Building and Construction will be released through the 25th issue of the publication “Annual Bulletin of Building and Construction Statistics, 2011”. A highlight of the key results of the survey is provided in this press release. A total of 2 234 establishments were covered, of which 812 (36%) are large establishments, defined as those employing 50 or more employees. These were fully covered in the survey. The total number of employees in the construction activity reached 393 455 persons, of whom 93.5% were working in the large establishments; their annual salaries amounted to 12 billion QR. The remaining (6.5%) employees were working in the small establishments that employ less than 50 employees each; their annual salaries amounted to 749 million QR. The majority of the workers (99.8%) were non-Qataris. The total production reached about 60 billion, generating a gross value added (GVA) of 28 billion QR, a share of 4.5% of the total economy’s GDP as published in December 2012, and net value added (after eliminating depreciation) amounted to 26 billion QR. Gross output per employee was 152 037 QR and Gross value added (GVA) per employee was 71 543 QR. The percentage of intermediate goods to gross output was 43%, while the percentage of intermediate services to gross output was 10%.
