On Qatar National Day National Planning Council Showcases Landmark Achievements in the Nation’s Comprehensive Development Journey

Qatar National Day marks a moment of national pride, celebrating the profound and remarkable journey of progress since the launch of the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030). The nation's advancement is neither incidental nor fortuitous; it is the tangible result of a disciplined planning and unified commitment that placed people at the heart of the development process and delivered tangible outcomes across various sectors. This commitment is currently articulated through the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030), which serves as the coordinated framework guiding the achievement of QNV 2030's remaining goals. It provides a clear and actionable roadmap that translates the Vision's aspirations into measurable outcomes, laying the foundations for a more prosperous and sustainable future.

In practice, the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3) translates QNV 2030 into coordinated implementation, strengthened institutions, and measurable progress across economic, human, social, and environmental pillars. Through this comprehensive approach to national planning and aligned action, Qatar continues to build a prosperous future grounded in resilience and shared purpose. This pivotal phase is characterized by a mature understanding that while strategy sets the direction, its successful delivery is a shared national effort, an active partnership between government, citizens, residents, private sector, and civil society. This phase is defined by collaboration and engagement, through which the State advances with confidence toward inclusive and sustainable development, broadening prosperity and ensuring equitable opportunities for all.

H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the National Planning Council, notes on this decisive phase: "Qatar has matured into a nation where strategic planning has evolved into a disciplined focus on delivery and measurable impact at scale. The Third National Development Strategy is specifically designed to leverage this maturity by unifying the efforts of government, businesses, and institutions under clearer priorities and collective ownership for results. The progress we celebrate today is a direct product of this discipline, collaboration, and the national commitment to tangible outcomes."

A more diversified and future-ready economy

The nation is decisively pivoting towards a sustainable, competitive, and diversified economic model, reflecting a clear vision for building a future-proof economy. Most recent indicators highlight the success of this strategic shift, with the non-hydrocarbon economy emerging as the main driver of growth, at an accelerated rate of 5.3 percent year-on-year.

Crucially, this shift is focused on creating a top-tier, business-friendly environment and building specialized economic clusters, making it easier to do business and fostering a culture of innovation. With Qatar already ranked among the world's top 10 most competitive economies in the 2025 World Competitiveness Report, the country is well-positioned to drive private-sector leadership and attract highly skilled talent. This achievement underscores the confidence of global investors and the impact of regulatory reforms designed to support private-sector participation and economic diversification. Most importantly, it unlocks new pathways for young Qataris and emerging entrepreneurs, ensuring that the benefits of national progress translate into real opportunities across a dynamic, future-ready economy.

Education and career journeys are evolving to meet future needs

Human development remains at the center of Qatar's transformation. NDS3 is shaping a stronger talent pipeline by strengthening learning pathways, modernizing curriculum standards, and linking skills development with the needs of a rapidly evolving economy. Qatar's recognition as the Most Educated Country in the Middle East, reinforced by Qatar University's standing among the region's top institutions, showcases a strong education system that empowers graduates to excel globally and drive the country's growth in advanced fields.

Alongside academic excellence, Qatar is actively building its future economy through sustained investment in science, technology, and innovation, enhancing the country's global competitiveness in research output. This strategic effort, directly supported by NDS3, aims to create high-value, future-ready jobs. As the nation aims to increase the number of patents filed per billion dollars of GDP tenfold by 2030, it's determined to turn local ideas and research into tangible, measurable outcomes that generate a real impact and contribute directly to the nation's development journey.

These achievements translate into real opportunities for children, youth, and professionals who will lead the next phase of national progress. NDS3 introduces new labour-market incentives, upskilling programs, early career guidance, and sector-specific partnerships, all designed to create meaningful pathways for young Qataris.

These initiatives support NDS3's goal to increase Qatari participation in the private and semi-private sectors to over 20 percent, reflecting Qatar's belief that national development is, above all, a human-centered endeavor rooted in opportunity, empowerment, and confidence.

Quality of life, social well-being, and cultural vitality are advancing

Qatar's high quality of life remains one of its greatest national achievements, reflected in strong global rankings and experienced daily through safe communities, well-designed public spaces, and accessible infrastructure that ensures all members of society can benefit from the nation's progress. The country's healthcare system, ranked first in the MENA region and among the world's top 20, reinforces this sense of well-being and accessibility of care.

A vibrant cultural and social landscape, led by museums, festivals, and world-class sporting events, is bringing people together and celebrating the nation's heritage. Tourism growth further fuels this momentum, drawing millions of visitors each year and showcasing Qatar's unique blend of hospitality, culture, and world-class experiences. Recognized as the fastest-growing holiday destination in the world, the tourism sector is contributing strongly to the economy, reinforcing Qatar's position as a thriving, globally connected destination that harmoniously combines economic development with cultural and human identity, creating a comprehensive vision of prosperity and national pride.

Climate action and resource protection are accelerating

Environmental sustainability is increasingly woven into daily life, strengthening the quality of living for current and future generations. The national strategy to reduce emissions by 2030 signals a long-term commitment to cleaner air, healthier communities, and responsible resource use.

The growing participation in Qatar Sustainability Week—from families planting mangroves to companies adopting cleaner technologies—reflects how environmental responsibility is becoming a shared effort across society. At the same time, expanding renewable energy projects, improved water-efficiency systems, and higher standards for sustainable design are shaping neighborhoods and public spaces that are safer, greener, and more resilient. These steps ensure that today's progress does not come at tomorrow's expense, guaranteeing that every citizen and resident benefits from a more sustainable national environment.

Across every pillar of development, the message remains consistent: national progress belongs to everyone. Government sets direction through QNV 2030 and delivers through NDS3. Yet, the driving force that turns strategy into impact is society itself. Sustainable and successful growth is realized through the active participation of citizens, residents, businesses, and civil society, each contributing to the country's momentum, through innovation, service, participation, and commitment to shared goals.

HE Dr. Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the National Planning Council, captures this spirit: "Our task is to turn long-term ambition into real outcomes that improve people's lives. This requires transparent monitoring, early problem-solving, and active participation from every segment of society. Qatar's development journey is a collective one, and our success will be defined by our ability to move together with purpose, confidence, and unity."

Qatar National Day reflects the nation's collective spirit, serving as an occasion to celebrate national achievement, honor the generations who shaped our path, and renew everyone's commitment to a brighter future for Qatar.

In its custodial role, NPC remains committed to ensuring that national planning delivers meaningful results and supports the country's long-term ambitions through transparency, accountability, and aligned action. Qatar continues to move forward with strong foundations, a clear vision, and steady momentum, guided by the shared belief that national progress belongs to everyone.
