The Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics (MDPS) has released the Machinery & Equipment Price Index (MEPI) for the Second Half /2014.       The indicator Of (MEPI) Considered as new addition to the statistical indicators issued by the ministry, Therefore the Economic statistics Department issued index number of machines and equipment because of importance in the current period in conjunction with the growth in Qatar economy and private sector building and construction, which constitutes Machinery and equipment one of the most important collections, In addition to the changes in the infrastructure due to future projects, which will provide semi-annual data for changes in prices of machinery and equipment purchased. The importance of (MEPI) is used by the system of National Accounts as a deflator to calculate the constant price estimates of purchases on final demand from machinery and equipment and in calculating the capital formation estimates. This Index has been prepared using the year 2012 as the base year and depending on Central Product Classification CPC.V2. and calculated semi-annually using Laspere formula. Figure (1) show weights of the main groups of the basket of goods Machinery and equipment. The (MEPI) of Second Half /2014 is estimated at 101.9, showing rise as 0.4% compared to the MEPI of the First Half 2014. The growth of MEPI in Second Half / 2014 ,compared to MEPI of Frist Half / 2014, Has resulted from the combined effect of price changes recorded in the main groups: “Special-purpose machines” increased by 1.2% , “Transport Equipment” by 0.3% and “Office machines, Accounting and Accounts” by 0.2%. Whereas “Machinery and electrical appliances” decreased by 0.7% .
