On the occasion of the International Widows Day corresponding to June 23, 2013, Statistics Authority issued a press release stating that 2393 (0.5% of total population) is the number of widows/ers in Qatar. Most of them are Qataris 63%, followed by the non-Qataris who constitute 25% of total widows. 
 The widows rate amounted to 2.2% of total females according to the marital status, whereas the widowers amounted to 0.1% of total males. Both widows and widowers statistics by the age group ( 55-above) are the highest among total widowed persons in Qatar. The Qatari widows/ers within the age group (55-above) attained 72% of total Qatari widowed persons, whereas for the non-Qataris it reached 62%. As for the economic perspective – widows and widowers’ relation with the workforce, 77% were economically inactive, yet only 23% were economically active in 2012.
