Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the Producer Price Index (PPI) of the Industrial sector for the third quarter (Q3) of 2012. The Industrial sector covers Mining, Electricity & Water and Manufacturing.      Comparison with previous quarter Q2-2012: 
   
The PPI for Q3, 2012 stood at 165.7 showing a decline of 2.5% when compared to the PPI of the second quarter Q2, 2012.  In the “Mining” group, the PPI dropped by 2.2%. This fall is the combined effect of decline in the prices of Condensate produced by the gas extraction (3.6%), Crude oil (2.8%) and extracted natural gas (1.2%), and the increase in the price of condensate produced by the oil extraction (1.7%), and Stone, Sand and Clay (0.4%). The decrease of 3.0% in the PPI for the “Manufacturing” group is explained mainly by the drop in the following product groups: basic chemical (7.2%) and refined petroleum products (2.2%), while minor increase was noticed in Cement and glass products 0.9%; and Aluminum, Iron and Steel industry 0.3% .  The PPI for “Electricity & Water” showed decrease of 8.3% resulting from the price decline of 6.7% in the Electricity and (10.7%) in the Water . 
   
Comparison with the corresponding quarter (Q3) of 2011:  
   
The year-on-year comparison (PPI of Q3 2012 compared to PPI of Q2 2011) shows an increase of 0.5%. Producer prices for “Mining” increased by 2.2%. “Manufacturing” dropped by 6.7%, “Electricity & Water” went down by 4.0%. The PPI for “Mining” group increased by 2.2% resulting mainly from the increases in the prices of natural gas by 12.1% and Stone, Sand & Clay by 3.3%. However, prices of condensate produced by gas extraction decreased by (6.5%), condensate produced by gas extraction liquid (3.4%) and crude oil (1.4%).  In the PPI for “Manufacturing”, there was a decline in the prices of basic chemicals (8.8%), Aluminum, iron & steel industry (8.0%) and Refined Petroleum products (6.3%).
 The PPI for the “Electricity & Water” group showed drop of 4.0%. Though there was 6.6% decrease in the price of Electricity, the price of water rose by 1.0%.
