Quarterly Bulletin of the Foreign Trade Statistics - Third Quarter 2017

Foreign Merchandise Trade Balance: In Q3 2017, Qatar recorded a merchandise trade balance surplus (difference between total exports and imports) of QR 37.4 billion, up from QR 24.2 billion in Q3 2016.

Total Exports: In Q3 2017, the value of Qatar’s total exports (including exports of domestic goods and re-exports) amounted to QR 60.3 billion, increased by QR 8.8 billion (17.1%) compared to Q3 2016 total exports of QR 51.5 billion.
The Q3 2017 year on year (Y-o-Y) increase in total exports was mainly due to higher exports of Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials by QR 7.5 billion, Chemicals and related products n.e.s., QR 0.8 billion, Manufactured goods classified chiefly by material by QR 0.3 billion, and Machinery and Transport Equipment (mainly re-exports) by QR 0.2 billion, In the other hand decrease was recorded mainly in Miscellaneous manufactured articles by QR 0.1 billion

Imports: The value of Qatar’s imports in Q3 2017 was QR 23.0 billion; decreased by QR 4.4 billion (15.9%) compared to Q3 2016 imports of QR 27.3 billion.
The Q3 2017 (Y-o-Y) decrease in imports reflected decreases in Machinery and transport equipment by QR 2.7 billion, and Manufactured goods classified chiefly by material by QR 1.2 billion, Miscellaneous manufactured articles by QR 0.8 billion, Chemicals and related products nes by QR 0.1, and Crude Materials, Inedible, Except Fuels by QR 0.1 billion .In the other hand increases was recorded in Food and Live Animals by QR 0.3, and Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials by QR 0.1 billion.

Major Export/Import Partners: During Q3 2017, Asia was the principal destination of Qatar’s exports and the first origin of Qatar’s imports, representing 77.7% and 35.5% respectively, followed by the European Union, accounting for 10.1% and 31.6% respectively, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, with 4.2% and 6.5% respectively.
