The Planning and Statistics Authority has released the 64th issue of (Qatar; Monthly Statistics) bulletin; a series of statistical newsletters released on a monthly basis. In this issue, we highlighted the most important statistical changes that occurred in the country during April 2019 in addition to extracts from the results of the 2015 Census.
The most prominent change in this issue is the rise in total number of vessels arriving at Qatar Ports by an annual rate of 5.2 %, resulting in an increase in the total net tonnage of ships at an annual rate of 130.1% (compared to April 2018). In addition, this month witnessed the increase in the total electricity generated and total water produced at an annual rate of 24.3% and 27.5% respectively compared to April 2018.
The demographic statistics showed that the total population of Qatar has increased from 2.71 million during April 2018 to 2.77 million at end of April 2019, an annual increase of 2.4%.
Regarding to Vital Statistics, 2023 live births has been registered during April 2019, a 7.0% decrease compared to March 2019. A decrease in the total Qatari live births by 17.6% compared to last month. On the other hand, 184 deaths were recorded during the same period, an increase of 2.8% compared to March 2019.
Moreover, April 2019 has experienced an increase in marriage contracts and divorce certificates. The total number of marriage contracts was 325 contracts, whereas the total No. of divorces has reached 98 divorce cases; namely, one divorce for every 3 marriages.
Social Security statements, reached 85.857 thousand Qatari Riyals in April 2019, for 15652 beneficiaries.
Total electricity consumption during April 2019 was 3191.1 GWh attaining a monthly increase of 14.1% and an annual rise of 22.2%. While the total water consumption has reached 50121.0 Thousand m3 during the same month attaining a monthly decrease of 1.7% and an annual rise of 27.9%.
The data of buildings permits issued, the total number of permits has reached 743 permits during April 2019, recording a monthly increase of 4.2%.
Traffic accidents cases, a total of 504 traffic cases were recorded during April 2019, showing a monthly decrease of 12.2%. Light injuries are accounted for the vast majority of traffic accidents during the same month, with 89%, followed by severe injuries by 8%. However, 13 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 3% of total traffic accidents.
The total number of registered new vehicles during April 2019 has reached 5705 new vehicles. The figure showed a monthly decrease of 8.6% and an annual increase of 8.0%.
For Banking Sector; Total Broad Money Supply (M2) recorded about 557.9 Billion Qatari Riyals during April 2019, an annual decrease of 4.8% compared with April 2018. On the other hand, cash equivalents; including Commercial Bank Deposits, attained for 800.8 Billion Qatari Riyals during April 2019. The figure has recorded an annual increase of 0.8% compared to April 2018, when deposits recorded approximately 794.3 Billion Qatari Riyals.
