Introduction to PPC

Population policy is an integrated set of measures, programmes, and initiatives aimed at influencing demographic variables, particularly those related to population size, growth, composition, and geographical distribution. It seeks to guide these variables towards achieving a sustainable balance with the available resources and the requirements of economic and social development.

In Qatar, population policy is implemented by translating its objectives into coordinated action programmes among the relevant entities. These programmes are supported by accurate data and indicators and accompanied by continuous monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, ensuring a tangible developmental impact on the ground.

Population Policy Role
Population Policy Role
Population policy sets out the principles, objectives, and policy directions adopted by the State on population-related matters. It seeks to shape demographic conditions, including population growth and its key components—fertility, births, deaths, geographical distribution, and migration—as well as population composition, including the relative size of youth and older age groups. It also addresses broader issues related to health and education. In this sense, population policy provides a comprehensive framework for all programs, activities, and initiatives that directly or indirectly affect demographic variables and is grounded in the culture and values of society.
Population Policy Objectives
Population Policy Objectives
Population policy aims to achieve balance among the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of development in the State of Qatar; strengthen family development and cohesion; empower women and reinforce the values of justice and gender equity; and advance reproductive health by ensuring the provision of family and child health services. It also seeks to sustain progress towards the goals of safe motherhood and healthy childhood programs and to protect the population from the effects of environmental degradation and from unsustainable and inequitable patterns of production and consumption.
