About Foreign Trade Statistics
Foreign trade of countries refers to the exchange of goods and products across borders or international regions, representing in most countries a significant share of the gross domestic product.
Foreign trade data for goods are prepared according to international recommendations for merchandise trade statistics. The General Authority of Customs is considered the main source of import data and goods prepared for export within export statistics. Data on foreign trade in goods are obtained through administrative records provided by exporting companies. Data are recorded based on value (cost, insurance, and freight) for imported goods, and on value (cost, insurance, and freight) for exported goods, in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations and the Trade Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Goods are classified according to the Harmonized System for the description and coding of goods, adopted by the World Customs Organization, and aligned with the Standard International Trade Classification, which considers the nature of products.
